Mack Lindon is an award-winning Australian filmmaker, director, writer, actor and founder of Vision Pictures — and his story is anything but ordinary.
Mack didn't go to film school. In fact, his filmmaking journey began in one of the most unlikely places imaginable — a prison cell, where he began writing the screenplay for what would become his debut feature film, RISE, based on his own experience of being wrongfully imprisoned.
After his release, Mack taught himself how to turn the screenplay into a real movie. He created a pitch trailer, built a team, raised independent funding and ultimately brought together a cast and crew of more than 300 people to make RISE.
The film went on to receive a theatrical release across Australia and New Zealand, international distribution, and has since amassed more than 30 million views across worldwide streaming platforms.
And Mack didn't stop there.
His latest feature, Rise of the Underdog, tells the next chapter of that extraordinary journey — the story of how an ordinary Australian, with no traditional filmmaking background, fought his way into the film industry and made his vision a reality.
The film had a national Australian cinema release and has picked up multiple international awards, including Best Director, Best Drama and Best Original Story at the Los Angeles Film Awards , as well as Best International Feature Film at the Indo Dubai International Film Festival.
Because Mack doesn't teach filmmaking from a textbook. He teaches it from experience.
He knows what it's like to have an idea and absolutely no idea where to start. He knows how to turn a story into a screenplay, a screenplay into a production, and a production into something audiences actually watch.
He has learned how to write, direct, produce, cast, fund, market and distribute independent films — and, most importantly, how to keep moving when the traditional industry tells you that your idea won't work.
